What is a Conventional Patent Application in India?

Short answer

Unlike PCT national phase entry, a conventional application is a direct Indian filing with a Paris Convention priority claim. The applicant must file within twelve months of the earliest priority date to preserve priority rights. Examination, prosecution, and grant then follow the standard procedure under the Patents Act, 1970.

Definition

A conventional application (convention application) is an Indian patent filing that claims priority from a first application filed in another Paris Convention country, filed within twelve months of that earlier date.
