What is Trademark Opposition?

Short answer

Opposition proceedings are quasi-judicial before the Registrar. Grounds include prior use, confusing similarity, and bad faith. Both parties file evidence and may appeal to the High Court.

Definition

After examination, accepted trademark applications are published in the Trademark Journal. Any person may oppose registration within four months of publication.
